In a far away land there was a kingdom called Lyonesse where there was peace and happiness. In the kingdom there lived a king and queen, with a 10-year-old princess daughter Olivia and another due in weeks. However the queen experienced some complications and passed away of childbirth. A healthy baby girl was born and was named Cora. But the king and Olivia were deeply depressed by the death of the queen and kingdom became quiet and unemotional.
In a nearby poor village there lived a widowed inventor who had a 10-year-old son named was Antonio. Antonio has had a difficult relationship with his father ever since his mother had died when he was very young. Antonio’s father was potentially a very important inventor to the kingdom, where he could possibly serve the king. However one-day Antonio’s father was working on a very important invention that would help set up a good life for Antonio. The invention would be presented to the king himself and Antonio’s father would be very well paid for it.
On the way over to the kingdom, Antonio’s father confronted his rival Ramon. After getting into an argument which Antonio’s father insulted Ramon, a fight ensued. But there was a tragic moment in the scuffle where Antonio’s father was unfortunately killed. Ramon laid the invention over Antonio’s father’s body making the incident seem like an accident. He then called the kingdom officials and let them know of the news.
The officials later delivered the news to Antonio at Antonio’s little house. Antonio wept over the death and realized he was all alone. Antonio then got over the death since he did not feel like he even knew his father. He looked up into the sky looking at the stars and started to sing “Without a Mother, Without a Father.” He then realized he had to take his father’s place as the inventor of the family and set off to work on his own.
Years later Olivia was ready to take the throne but was not yet engaged or met anyone worthy of it. She did not feel ready to take on the responsibility, as she wants to marry for love and not just to find an heir. Her relationship with her father the king had been deteriorating also since the death of her mother. The king had searched far and near for a worthy prince but there was no worthy being found. The king realized he must pick someone within the kingdom to succeed him. He decided he would tour the whole kingdom with his daughters to find a rightful heir.
Touring around the kingdom with his two daughters, Olivia was not impressed by anyone or the idea of finding someone within the kingdom that she would marry. After touring for an hour, there stopped by a new workshop, where Antonio was grown up and was the owner of the shop. The king was not impressed and moved on the shop across the road owned by Antonio’s rival Ramon, his idiot son Montez and dumb dog.
However, Cora sneaked into Antonio’s shop. Antonio discovered Cora in the back of the shop staring at a doll, which Antonio’s father had made in the image of his mother. He let her keep it as a gift and told her to take great care of it. Next to it was one he made of his father, or at least what he remembers of his father. Olivia walked into the shop and was impressed with Antonio’s work and also found him to be very kind to her younger sister. The king ordered that they had to leave immediately and Antonio and Olivia said hopefully they would see each other soon.
The king had given up hope and had no idea what to do. His assistant then brought up the idea of a competition: whoever could perform the most incredible act would have permission to marry Olivia and become the heir to the throne. The king rejoiced the idea and had his messengers spread the message to the entire kingdom. Antonio received the message and knew he could possibly win the heart of Olivia.
The King had visited Ramon, who tried his hardest to impress the King but to no avail. But Ramon had other plans for Antonio. He would create a device that would destroy Antonio’s invention. And he would steal whatever Antonio would create and pass the work as his own.
Antonio started to brainstorm on what to make. He stayed up all night creating many unique ideas but could come to no conclusion. Antonio remembered the conversation he had with Olivia and decided to invent something to honor the queen. He went home later that night and tried to think of something to build but had come up with nothing. And then he looked up to the sky and asked for a miracle. A star shined for a brief moment.
While sleeping in the middle of the night, a beam of light from the same light touched the doll that looked like his father and rose to the air. As soon as it was set down, the doll began to move. Amazed with itself, the doll rejoiced and walked over to Antonio. He said, “Antonio, Antonio, ANTONIO!” Antonio looked up and was very confused. The doll suddenly said, “It’s me your father!” Antonio freaked out and jumped right out his bed. After talking for a minute. Antonio decided to believe him.
Antonio’s father started to jump around like crazy and cracked some jokes. Antonio stood in confusion, not knowing his father was this funny. After Antonio’s father got tired of Antonio not laughing at his jokes, he decided to have a serious talk with his son. They talked out both of their mistakes in the past. Antonio’s father said his new goal he felt he had to do was help Antonio finish was he could not finish himself. Antonio initially refused stating that his father was never there for him, as he had to grow up without a mother and a father. Antonio’s father said it was hard on him too that he had to watch his son suffer from above. He also said that after his mother died, all he ever wanted was that for his son to live a good life and be happy. He apologized for never being there.
Antonio wanted to invent something that would represent each of her qualities. Antonio’s father then described what he had tried to deliver to the king many years ago. The invention was a beautiful handmade clock with each hour representing each quality of the queen honoring her after her death. They agreed that they should work together to build the clock.
The clock had taken many weeks to Antonio had finished the clock and it turned out magnificent. They decided that the princess and the king would absolutely love it. However, Ramon was spying on him and had decided to confront Antonio to destroy his invention after being amazed by it himself. Suddenly he saw Antonio’s father in doll-form and decided to get rid of the doll.
In the middle of the night before the big presentation, Ramon kidnapped Antonio’s father and trapping him into his workshop. While trapping Antonio’s father, Ramon revealed his plan and how he would win the princess. Ramon also mentioned how Antonio will suffer a death worse than his own father did. Ramon then left his son and the dog to guard Antonio’s father and make sure he does not escape.
Antonio woke up the next morning and saw his father was missing. Feeling abandoned once again, Antonio had decided to move on once again and do the presentation, even though he was depressed.
Antonio was the second last one to present the clock to princess and king. Olivia was secretly rooting for Antonio and the king did take note of this. As Antonio took the cloth off of the clock the entire kingdom was in awe of the clock. But as the presentation went on, Antonio’s father had fooled Ramon’s stupid son and dog and escaped and made his way to the castle as quickly as possible.
As the kingdom was in awe, Ramon set his invention up and it was about to destroy the clock. Antonio noticed it at the last second and pushed the clock and cracking it, but unfortunately Antonio was close to being mortally wounded. Ramon and Antonio grabbed two swords and dueled each other. During the battle, Ramon admitted the truth to Antonio about his father’s death. Upsetting Antonio, Ramon used Antonio’s anger to mortally stab Antonio. Olivia ran up to Antonio in shock and Ramon was arrested. There was silence throughout the castle and shock.
All of sudden, Antonio’s father ran into the ballroom and the kingdom was even more shocked. He ran up to his son as Antonio was struggling. Antonio’s final words to his father were, “I love you father, and I always have.” Antonio then passed. Olivia sobbed over his body and Antonio’s father sobbed as well. But he said, “I was not always there for you, always be there for your son.” He then put his hand on Antonio’s wound and beams of light soared from the dolled into Antonio and healed him. Antonio’s father’s spirit then arose from the doll and looked upon his son as himself, he then said, “I love you son. I always have and I will never stop loving you.” The spirit soared out of the ballroom and into the sky. After the events, the King rejoiced, “That was the Most Incredible Thing ever! Antonio, you have my blessing to marry my daughter.” Antonio and Olivia then kissed and the scene cut directly to their wedding. As they danced in the ballroom, the scene goes throughout the castle and shows the clock. The image of the clock of the queen had a star’s reflection where her eye was and then the star shine and the queen smiled along with the reflection of the doll of Antonio’s mother, signaling there is possibly magic in all of Antonio’s inventions.
