Disney Animation will most likely continue the hot streak it has been on for the past few years. The past five films (The Princess and The Frog, Tangled, Winnie-The-Pooh, Wreck-It-Ralph, and Frozen) have all been very successful in the box office and praised by critics. Big Hero 6 will hopefully be the sixth-straight (pun-intended) animated film to continue what may be the Second Disney Renaissance. Yes, the film has not been released, but early reviews are critically acclaiming the film. The questions that remain are: What exactly is the Big Hero 6? Can Big Hero 6 become another Disney classic?
The roster of the Big Hero 6 is made up of 6 characters that will be present in the film. Hiro Hamada, the protagonist the film and is a 14-year-old robotics prodigy. He dominates the illegal underground bot fights of San Fransokyo. His brother, Tadashi inspires Hiro to gain admission to San Fransokyo's Institute of Technology. (As seen in a preview, Tadashi is assumed to be dead, I'll get back to that later.) Baymax is the comic-relief character of the film and Hiro's best friend. Baymax is an inflatable robot built by Tadashi to serve as a healthcare companion. Already I get the sense that Baymax will be a Disney character that many will remember for years to come. The rest of the team is made up of Go Go Tomago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred/Fredzilla. Go Go is a tough girl, who is interested in athletics and specializes in electromagnetic wheel axels. Wasabi is a neat-freak who is an expert with laser cutting. Honey Lemon is a chemistry whiz and seems a little quirky. Lastly, Fred is a laid-back comic-book fan who also plays the mascot at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. Additional characters in the film include: Tadashi Hamada, Hiro's older brother and Baymax's creator, Aunt Cass, Hiro and Tadashi's aunt and guardian, who owns a popular San Fransokyo bakery and coffee shop, Professor Robert Callaghan, the head of a robotics program at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology and Tadashi's professor and mentor, and Alistair Krei, a pioneer entrepreneur and tech guru. He is also one of the most distinguished alums of San Fransokyo Institute of Technology and owner of the biggest technology company in the world, Krei Tech.
Big Hero 6 seems to the have the potential to be another Disney classic and the early reviews look optimistic. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a rating of 88%, based on 16 reviews, with an average rating of 7.4/10. On Metacritic, the film has a rating of 81 out of 100, based on 6 critics, indicating "universal acclaim." Good? Yes. Early? Yes. So far it seems the Disney Animation has once again hit the "jackpot." My prediction on the film is that there are going to be a lot of laughs and be a superhero film like never before. Disney surprised me with Wreck-It-Ralph and how great that film was. I have high expectations for Big Hero 6, then again they may be surpassed. The film will contain development of the team and the chemistry between them that makes them the Big Hero 6 and I can't wait to see what Disney has in store for us. However, who will they be fighting? The trailer was only given us clues that someone is plotting something big with some type of techno microbot-organisms. I think the super-villain will be Alistair Krei, but Professor Robert Callaghan will also be helping him with his ultimate plot. My prediction for the film is that Tadashi discovered the plot and was captured and his death was faked in order for him to stay quiet. Now it's up to Hiro to be the Hero! (pun-intended again) He brings together the Big hero 6, finds Tadashi alive only for him to die in his arms and bring down the super villain. But, like in most Disney films, there has to be that moment of near-death. I feel that Hiro's life will be threatened, and Baymax, due to his programming, will sacrifice himself for Hiro. This would be an extremely sad moment, however with Hiro being a genius, he would re-build Baymax and all would be happy in the end.
Once again, the second Disney Renaissance seems to be alive and well. I cannot wait to see Big Hero 6 and how it compares to recent Disney Animated films. If Big Hero 6 is a huge success, this Renaissance era may never end. Disney Animation has flexed it muscle with its signature Princess films, but it's now creating more stories outside of that category. Disney Animation may have many more years ahead of them for new stores and until then they're..."ON TOP OF THE WORLD." (reference to the Greek Fire song; very catchy)

P.S. Rumor has it that Stan Lee is making a cameo, since the characters are based off the Marvel comic of the same name. Also there is another rumor that there is a Marvel-esque post-credits scene. So be sure not to leave early! (Sequel? crossover? Disney Animated Marvel Cinematic Universe?!?! Oh the possibilities!)
